Any creative, ORIGINAL work of art (any size, any medium, any subject matter, 2-D or 3-D) created within the last year. There is no criterion for subject matter. Please do not have any pre-conceived notions of what you think we want to see. We want what you love to create! LIMIT ONE ENTRY PER STUDENT PER YEAR.
WHEN AND WHERE TO ENTER:
All entries must be dropped off between February 16-18, 2016, at the Hoogland Center for the Arts (420 S. 6th Street, Springfield, IL), between the hours of 10am-5pm. All entries from one school should be dropped off by one individual from that school. All entries must be wrapped or packaged together in a portfolio or a box. If the piece is large or fragile, please make special arrangements for drop off using the contact information listed below. We will do our best to handle each piece carefully while in our care, but SOCAF is ultimately not responsible for any accidental damage the artwork. No entries will be accepted after 5pm on Thursday, February 18, 2016.
HOW TO ENTER:
Each student must complete the entry form and secure it to their entry.
HOW WILL ARTWORK BE RETURNED AFTER JUDGING:
Entries will be available for pick up February 22-24, between the hours of 10am-5pm, at the Hoogland Center for the Arts. Please have only one representative pick up all entries from your school. Award winning pieces will be retained by SOCAF and then exhibited in the Old State Capitol during the Art Fair, May 21-22, 2016, unless the artwork is needed for another contest or exhibition. Please pick up winning artwork at the Old State Capitol on Sunday, May 22, 2016, between 2:30-3:00 p.m. SOCAF is not responsible for unclaimed artwork.
The first place winning student will be awarded a check for $250, have their 2-D piece framed (if applicable), and will be given a framed poster featuring their artwork. Second place will be awarded a check for $200; third place will be awarded a check for $150. One honorable mention award is given to each of the three grade categories (6-8, 9-11, and 12) and each are awarded a check for $100. All of the above award winners will receive recognition in the SOCAF Illinois Times insert in May 2017 and will be listed on the SOCAF website. All checks will be dispersed to the winners during the student awards ceremony on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 10 a.m. in front of the Old State Capitol. In addition, the art instructor of the winning artist will receive a $300 grant for the purchase of art materials for classroom use.
